KIA has unveiled three new small and mid-sized electric models in Korea during the brand's annual event. This announcement reaffirms its ambitious global strategy to lead in the electric vehicle sector and accelerate its development.
During this event, KIA showcased its vision for electric vehicles and its strategy to significantly and swiftly expand its electric car lineup.
The new announcements include an electric car named EV5, along with two new concepts aimed at facilitating access to technology.
KIA aims to offer a wide range of electric vehicles, including the EV6 and EV9 models, featuring Level 3 autonomous driving and a range of up to 540 kilometers. The company hopes to promote the adoption of electric vehicles at competitive prices.
The EV5 is the third electric vehicle in KIA's lineup, designed using the dedicated E-GMP platform for electric cars. It is planned to be available in the Chinese and Korean markets.
The specifications of the EV5 vary from market to market. In China, the standard model comes with a 64 kWh battery and a 160 kWh motor, allowing it to achieve a range of up to 530 kilometers.
The long-range model includes an 88 kWh battery and the same 160 kWh motor, enabling it to cover a distance of up to 720 kilometers on a single charge.
As for the long-range model with four-wheel drive, it comes with two motors with a total power of 230 kWh, a 160 kWh motor for the front wheels and a 70 kWh motor for the rear wheels, with fast charging support allowing the battery to be charged from 30% to 80% in 27 minutes.
For the Korean models, they are designed to meet the needs of the market. The standard model comes with a 58 kWh battery and a front motor of 160 kWh.
The long-range model has an 81 kWh battery and the same 160 kWh front motor, while the long-range model with four-wheel drive has an additional rear motor of 70 kWh, bringing the total power to 225 kWh.
The EV5 battery is designed to operate efficiently in all weather conditions, equipped with an advanced heat pump system to manage battery temperature excellently.
Although the EV5 will be available for sale in the Chinese market later this year, the other electric vehicles unveiled during this event are still in the conceptual stage.
