Rodri, the Manchester City midfielder and recent Ballon d'Or winner, stated that he would listen to Real Madrid if the "best team in history" ever decided to negotiate with him for a potential move.
In an interview with a popular sports radio show in Spain on Thursday evening, Rodri was asked how he would respond if Real Madrid tried to sign him.
Rodri replied: "When Real Madrid, the best club in history and the most decorated in terms of trophies, comes to ask for me, it’s clear that it would be an honor and something I would have to take seriously."
After this response, Rodri immediately expressed his happiness with his current situation at Manchester City.
Spanish players who aren’t at Real Madrid or Barcelona are often asked by local media about their interest in joining one of the two rival clubs, and their answers usually make headlines.
Rodri, 28, is under contract with Manchester City until June 2027.
The Spanish international is currently recovering after undergoing surgery for an anterior cruciate ligament injury and a meniscus tear in his right knee, which he sustained in September.
A month later, Rodri made history as the first Spanish player to win the Ballon d'Or in more than six decades, while his compatriot, Aitana BonmatÃ, claimed the women's Ballon d'Or for the second consecutive year.
