The Chinese smartphone market experienced a 4% growth in sales during 2024, according to a report from research firm Canalys.
The report indicates that around 285 million smartphone units were shipped in the Chinese market during 2024, with Chinese companies dominating the largest share of sales, while Apple saw a noticeable decline.
Most of the top five spots in terms of market share are held by local brands, with Apple securing third place despite a drop in its sales in China.
According to the report, Chinese company Vivo managed to capture the largest share of smartphone sales in China in 2024, with a market share of 17%, shipping 49.3 million units.
Huawei ranked second on the list with a 16% market share, after shipping around 46 million units.
Apple, Oppo, and Honor companies ranked third to fifth, each holding an equal market share of 15%, with 42.9 million, 42.7 million, and 42.2 million units shipped, respectively.
Apple had the largest market share of smartphone sales in China in 2023, shipping about 51.8 million units, which helped it capture 19% of the market.
Despite falling to third place in the ranking of the largest smartphone sellers in the Chinese market, Apple performed strongly in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Apple managed to ship around 13.1 million units in just the fourth quarter of 2024, capturing 24% of the sales in the last three months of the previous year.
