Beşiktaş played to a goalless draw with their guest Samsunspor today, Saturday, in the 20th round of the Turkish Süper Lig.
Beşiktaş failed to secure a victory despite Samsunspor playing with ten players for almost half an hour following the 64th-minute red card shown to Rick van Drongelen.
Each team earned a single point, raising Beşiktaş's total to 31 points, placing them fifth, while Samsunspor reached 37 points in third place.
The draw came just hours after the announcement of Norwegian Ole Gunnar Solskjær's appointment as the team's head coach, marking his first managerial role since being dismissed from Manchester United over three years ago.
The Turkish club announced that it had signed the Norwegian coach on an 18-month contract, keeping him with the team until the end of next season, with an option for a one-year extension.
In a statement, the Turkish club said: "We believe Ole Gunnar Solskjær will make significant contributions to our club. We warmly welcome him to the Beşiktaş family and wish him great success."
Solskjær has not coached any team since 2021 when he was sacked by Manchester United.
As a player, Solskjær won the English Premier League title six times and famously scored the winning goal in the dying seconds against Bayern Munich in the 1999 UEFA Champions League final.
The 51-year-old Norwegian coach previously managed Cardiff City for a brief period in 2014 and had two stints with Norwegian club Molde.
