Van Nistelrooy: Vardy Leads by Example

Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy praised his veteran striker Jamie Vardy after his goal paved the way for a crucial 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Vardy, 38, equalized early in the second half from close range, and just four minutes later, Bilal El Khannous scored the winning goal.

Van Nistelrooy described the victory—ending a run of seven consecutive Premier League defeats—as massive, lifting his team out of the relegation zone to 17th place.

Speaking about Vardy, who has scored seven goals and provided three assists in the league this season, Van Nistelrooy said: "He’s a leader by example. He’s still delivering, and the respect he commands from the team and everyone at this club is immense. He’s doing his job to perfection."

In the post-match press conference, he added: "The performance was excellent. The shape and the way the players defended together were impressive. We went a goal down, but the team’s reaction was positive. They took control of the ball and started playing. At halftime, the atmosphere in the dressing room was calm, and their performance there was outstanding. I believe that made the difference in securing the win."

He continued: "The effort, commitment, saves, and tactics we employed were incredibly satisfying to see. We’ve earned three fantastic points away from home."

He concluded: "We worked together as one team, put in the hard work, stayed united, and achieved a great victory. I fully support every single one of them 100% to get out of this tough situation. We all know what’s at stake. We want to play good football, but these three points are a step in the right direction, and hopefully, this will be the start of a series of good results."
