Morata and Asensio Highlight Deadline Day Deals in the Winter Transfer Market

The winter transfer market for the 2025 season in Europe’s top five leagues officially closed on Monday, with several deals finalized on the last day.

Among the most notable transfers were Marco Asensio moving from Paris Saint-Germain to Aston Villa, and Álvaro Morata leaving AC Milan for Turkish side Galatasaray. Below are the most prominent deals completed on the final day of the "winter transfer market."

Michy Batshuayi : The Belgian striker moved from Galatasaray to Eintracht Frankfurt to replace Egyptian international Omar Marmoush, who joined Manchester City.

Lloyd Kelly : transferred from Newcastle United to Juventus on a loan deal. The 26-year-old defender featured in 14 matches for Newcastle this season, amassing only 596 minutes of play.

Marco Asensio : The former Real Madrid star made a move from Paris Saint-Germain to English side Aston Villa. Asensio played 16 matches for PSG in the first half of the season but had been relegated to the bench in the team’s last six games. Aston Villa brought him in to continue their successful run in the Champions League.

Santiago Giménez : The Mexican striker joined AC Milan from Feyenoord to boost the club’s attacking power. Milan has scored just 33 goals this season, while Giménez netted 16 goals in 19 appearances for Feyenoord across all competitions, including five goals in five Champions League matches.

Davide Calabria : left AC Milan to join Bologna, marking the end of a career-long journey with the "Rossoneri." The Italian defender came through Milan’s youth academy and played 272 matches for the club. He captained the team since 2022 but was allowed to leave early, ahead of his contract expiration this summer, to pursue more playing opportunities in respect of his wishes.

Álvaro Morata : The Spanish veteran striker moved from AC Milan to Galatasaray on loan. The Turkish league has increasingly become a destination for former Premier League players, and Morata joined Galatasaray after making 13 Serie A appearances this season, scoring five goals.

Miguel Almirón : Paraguayan playmaker Miguel Almirón returned to Atlanta United in the MLS, leaving Newcastle United after six years. Almirón originally joined Newcastle from Atlanta United on January 31, 2019. During his time with the English club, he played 223 matches and scored 30 goals.
